Chocolate cake squares

These chocolate moist squares are perfect served with custard on top, for lunch or even served as treats in a picnics

Ingredients:

  • 200g (7oz) plain flour
  • 1 tsp barcarbonate of soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 150g (5oz) soft brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 eggs, beaten lightly
  • 150ml (¼ pint) vegetable oil
  • 150ml (¼ pint) semi skimmed milk

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 170ºc/Gas 3. 
  2. Grease and line a 23cm square cake tin.
  3. Sift the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.  Add the syrup, eggs, oil and milk.  With an electric mixer, mix all the ingredients together.
  4. Pour into the tin and spread out. Bake for 40-45mins, until baked and springs back to you touch.  Leave to cool.  Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Cut up into squares and serve with creamy custard and any left over put into an airtight tin.
